Before we begin your System Cleanup, we ask that you download and install the following software on your system:

• Malwarebytes (download and install the free version on this page)
• Ad-Aware (download and install the Adaware Free PC Cleaner)
• Spybot Search & Destroy (download and install the main program)
• HijackThis+

If you do not have an anti-virus program active on your system, we ask that you download and install one (and only one) of the following free anti-virus programs on your system:

• AVG for PC
• AVG for MAC
• Avira
• Avast

Additional software may be necessary to download and install, but this will be sufficient to get the System Cleanup started. If you can have these programs downloaded and installed before we begin, that will save time that will otherwise be billable if we have to do this step for you. Having these ready will allow us to hit the ground running on the System Cleanup effort.

You can run scans with each of these yourself prior to us beginning your System Cleanup process if you feel confident in your ability to do so. But if you are unsure and deem yourself to be a novice in areas such as this, it is probably best if you let us walk you through everything one time before you begin. If you choose to run scans yourself, make sure that you first perform updates on this software (except for HijackThis) to make sure that you have the latest definitions files and other updates. Also if you choose to do scans on your own before we begin your System Cleanup, make ABSOLUTELY SURE you do not fix anything prior to letting us see the scan results. Make sure you save the results of any scanning you might do on your own. Failure to do so may make your cleanup process take longer. Do not assume that by doing the scans and cleaning detected infections up yourself, it means they are completely gone. So for that reason, it is vital that we see all results that you obtain through any scanning on your own. We are not trying to discourage you from cleanup efforts of your own. Just be aware that if you remove *parts* of a virus, and do not get all of it, removing those parts without saving all log files related to what you have fixed can make it much more difficult to get rid of the remaining virus traces these software packages might leave behind. These are great detection tools, but 1) they do not always detect everything and 2) they do not always work to fully remove an infection. Many viruses are coded with the specific intent on the part of the author to defeat detection and repair programs such as these and successfully do so. It is for that reason that we want to make sure you understand the importance of saving any log files you generate with repair efforts you try to do on your own.
